Swimming Pool

Waddington Redwood Primary Academy is very fortunate to be one of the few primary schools in the county to have their own outdoor swimming pool!  The pool, which is used throughout the summer term, is a great asset and is used effectively to teach children of all ages and abilities.  All children from Reception to Year 6 have weekly swimming sessions and many have the opportunity to work towards and achieve accredited badges and certificates to reward their progress.

We employ a qualified and very experienced swimming Instructor, who teaches the children based on their individual needs, ranging from basic water safety to develop children’s confidence, to much more advanced skills and techniques.

National Curriculum 2014

Swimming and water safety

All schools must provide swimming instruction in either Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2.  Having our own pool provides an invaluable opportunity for us to meet all the requirements of the PE curriculum without having to leave the school grounds.

In particular, pupils should be taught to:

  • swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres;
  • use a range of strokes effectively such as front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke;
  • perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
