Special Needs Provision
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Statement
At Waddington Redwood Primary Academy we believe that each pupil has individual and unique needs. However, some pupils require more support than others. We are committed to providing a fully accessible environment and curriculum which values and includes all children. We aim to remove barriers to ensure that every child can enjoy and fully participate in all aspects of school life and benefit from the full breadth and richness of the opportunities we provide.
We acknowledge that a significant proportion of pupils will have special educational needs and/or a disability (SEND) at some time in their school career. Many of these pupils may require help throughout their time in school, while others may need a little extra support for a short period to help them overcome more temporary needs. If these pupils are to achieve their full potential, we must recognise this and plan accordingly. We aim to provide all pupils with strategies for dealing with their needs in a supportive environment, and to give them meaningful access to the National Curriculum.
Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities can fall into one or more of the following categories:
- Cognition and Learning
- Communication and Interaction
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health
- Sensory and/or Physical Needs
Every effort is made to identify children with SEND early in order for the appropriate level of support and intervention to be given. Identification is made through on-going teacher assessments of pupil progress in all areas of their development. Where appropriate, assessment data is used to measure the progress of pupils in reading, writing and mathematics. Once identified, the school follows the Graduated Response to meeting pupil needs as set out in the Special Educational Needs Code of Practice.
Parents are involved at every opportunity from early identification of special needs through each stage. Review meetings are held with parents, teachers, support staff and pupils to discuss and agree progress made and set further targets for achievement. The school also has access to a variety of outside agencies that can, upon referral, provide advice and support for pupils.

Facilities
At Redwood Academy, we are proud to offer a Sensory Room as part of our commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all children. This safe and calming space is available for any child who may benefit from sensory support, whether for self-regulation, sensory circuits, or targeted interventions.
Our Sensory Room is thoughtfully designed with a range of equipment and resources to help children manage their emotions, develop focus, and feel at ease. It serves as a sanctuary where students can take a break, build resilience, and access tailored activities to meet their individual needs.
We believe that every child deserves the tools and opportunities to thrive, and our Sensory Room plays a vital role in fostering their well-being and success.
